"Funkmeister" by Hugh Jarvis Hitchcock (Pop Artist from Florida(FL))

Hugh Jarvis Hitchcock and his debut CD, "Funkmeister" is an album that spans fluently across many genres. At some moments it's urban and jazzy, other times it's 80's music with some world beat flare. Female vocals, keyboards, and a drum machine make for some smooth, catchy, and fun songs. The album is best represented by the track, "Out of Control," as it has a fast paced world drum beat, jazzy saxophone, and a funky bass line that really moves. The stand out single is "All I Know" as this song offers a slower moving beat with soft and sweet vocals. "Funkmeister" will surprise you at every turn, from its ever-changing genre, to samples of George W. Bush speeches and is definitely a great album to hear if you're looking for a variety of music with vibrant rhythms.

"Well I Never..." by JustDave (Pop/Rock Artist from England)

That JustDave rocks with authority is clear, but their excellent new CD, "Well I Never…", also showcases the band's capacity for delivering solid pop-rock tunes that are as immediate as they are enduring. With meaningful lyrics, tightly layered harmonies and biting, guitar-driven arrangements, "Well I Never…" finds JustDave mixing some distinctly '80's-era pop sounds ("Professional Victim" & "The Inconvenient Truth") with Classic Rock sensibilities ("Hard To Breathe" and "I Can't Be Wrong All the Time") in a seamless, 12-song collection that's strong from start to finish. Other highlights include the Blue Oyster Cult-like "Fractured" and the echo-laden power ballad, "When It All Comes Down," but throughout the album JustDave's musical instincts prove spot-on. Well-conceived and equally well-played, JustDave's latest CD, "Well I Never…," finds the English band hitting on all cylinders in delivering an album that rocks with timeless and memorable songs.

"Studio 71" by LUCIA (Pop Artist from Florida(FL))

"Studio 71" is a catchy and comfortable Pop album by the talented singer/songwriter LUCIA. Her very natural Jazzy voice is supported by R&B instrumentation with Pop and Rock flavors. The songs, "All of It" and "Ball of Hypocrisy" show off her more upbeat and catchy side. But she also shows her soft side with delicate tracks like "Dream You Alive" and "A Little More Time." It is always refreshing to hear an artist who can play an instrument as well as sing. LUCIA excels with her piano accompaniments and angelic vocals on her debut album, "Studio 71" which is why this CD is a must have addition for fans of fresh and original Pop music.

"I Will Wait-Single" by Gigger (Pop Artist from Norway)

"I Will Wait-Single" is the debut song by talented London artist Gigger. The song is a promising view into the future of this artist's career. His voice is soft, sweet, and full of passion. His guitar work is perfect and shows the same emotion as his voice. Plenty of artists like Damien Rice, Matt Pond PA, Denison Witmer, and others have paved the way for Gigger to succeed. Well produced as this single was mastered at Abbey Road Studios and is sure to gain a little street credentials among the Indie music community. In short, keep your eyes out for more compositions from the talented Acoustic Pop musician, Gigger.

"Chasing Sunsets" by Ryan Cowley (Pop Artist from New Zealand)

Releasing his album "Chasing Sunsets," Ryan Cowley offers listeners a collection of charming and calming Acoustic Pop music. Cowley's lyrics emit an urge to be free and live easy, giving the listener a soothing and relaxing feel. You can feel this vibe as you listen to the track "Orbit" as it is also complemented by sweet, haunting female vocals. "How Do You Mend a Broken Heart?" has the poppy feel of a John Mayer or Dave Matthews Band single. Cowley appears to take the position that too many instruments can dilute the message of a song, and sticks with the classic 4-piece guitar, bass, piano, and drum combo. The outcome of this classic small group is a beautiful blend of delightful, lighthearted pop melodies. "Chasing Sunsets" is an overall good listen and will fit snugly next to the Jason Mraz and Jack Johnson albums in your collection.

"Bucks County" by Paul Marturano (Pop Artist from Pennsylvania(PA))

"Bucks County" by Paul Marturano is a peppy mix of piano and guitar that can appeal to many listeners. Marturano writes piano compositions that take influences from story singers like Billy Joel, Elton John, and John Mellencamp and also delivers a soul coming out of the late 70's. Marturano's vocals are polished and project expression on each and every melodic song. His crisp and clean piano work is highlighted on the track "One And A Half Years Old." His crafty songwriting is best represented by "The Man," an upbeat tune with a bouncy piano line and a crunching guitar on rhythm. Every track has its own separate feeling and charm. "Bucks County" takes the roads well traveled by piano driven Pop/Rock and comes out with an album well worth hearing.

"Raw Shaw" by Graham Shaw (Pop/Rock Artist from Ontario, Canada)

Talented singer/songwriter Graham Shaw serves up an entertaining collection of Pop, Blues, and Folk songs on his delightful album "Raw Shaw." As you listen to this album, you will hear fresh and original music at its best as it is well produced and has a nice dynamic balance. Shaw's vocals are clean with crisp clarity and at times project edgy, tough attitude as you can hear on the upbeat Bluesy song "Debbie Rae." The bouncy beat on "Keep Yer Face On Straight" is vibrant and lively and displays a colorful country influence. Showing a softer side, the ballads, "Draw Your Face" and "Once in a While" emits heartfelt lyrics sung with thought provoking tonality. The endlessly enjoyable album, "Raw Shaw" offers a variety of wonderful songs with a beautiful blend of Pop, Blues, and Folk and is an album well worth hearing.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Marc James with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Maximum Action "

RadioIndy is pleased to present Marc James with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Maximum Action "

Marc James' 8-song CD, "Maximum Action," is a brilliant mix of David Bowie-meets-Bryan Ferry Euro-pop that is fit for a dance club as well as for a cabaret. Relying primarily on ambient, synth-infused soundscapes, James delivers wry, clever, and funny lyrics with an arch delivery invoking a dapper rogue completely unaware of his obviousness. The lead track, "The Perfect Stranger," captures this most effectively with a dry but melodic vocal in full seductive mode. "Hard Driving Music" rides a bouncing disco-like bass-line in a tuneful exercise that is pure schmaltz ("Do you want to swing, to dance, and sway to that hard driving rocking and rolling") - and is absolutely irresistible. On "Tribute to Marilyn" (yes, Monroe) James references Ray Davies' classic "Celluloid Heroes" with a straight-faced ingenuousness that is as subversive as it is catchy. Closing the album as strongly as it begins, "You Have A Secret" is built on a classic doo-**** chord progression that becomes transformed by a breathy, understated narrative (a la Leonard Cohen), and embellished by a solemn and perfect background chorus. In the end, Marc James' "Maximum Action" CD is that rare intriguing album by an artist that will win you over with his lush, melodic accessibility.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Identity Crisis with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Mosaic "

RadioIndy is pleased to present Identity Crisis with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Mosaic "

Mosaic is defined as "a combination of diverse elements forming a more or less coherent whole." Identity Crisis and their CD "Mosaic," is appropriately titled as this collection of varying styles tells a love story through numerous musical genres. With both male and female vocals, the album has a refreshing inconsistency that's bound to keep you engaged. "The Idea of You" takes a Bossa Nova approach, putting the listener in an elegant surrounding but don't get too comfortable; "Best of Yourself" captures a smoky bar ambiance through an 8-bar blues number. The harmonies are spectacular as you will hear on songs such as "Beyond." There are horns, harmonica, harmony, and solid and concrete musicianship that hold it all in place. These musicians have formed a strong and sound connection and the chemistry between them is brilliant. The password is "Mosaic," come on in.
