RadioIndy is pleased to present Kim Esty with a GrIndie Award for the CD "He Doesn’t Like Me… (He Likes My Brother)"

RadioIndy is pleased to present Kim Esty with a GrIndie Award for the CD "He Doesn't Like Me… (He Likes My Brother)"

"He Doesn't Like Me… (He Likes My Brother)," the new CD-single from accomplished dance-pop songstress Kim Esty, is a delicious slice of Electronica worthy of the singer's clear affinity for the genre's queen bee, Madonna. Boasting 7 different remixes (by Whisper Twins vs SBD and Dr. Octavo Versace), "He Doesn't Like Me…" – in all its permutations, is as catchy as it is danceable. Esty's multi-layered vocals soaring over the thrust of the programmed beats creates a sonic wash perfect for the dance floor. And tossing off the clever hook line like a straight-faced Kirsty MacColl only adds to the fun. Both sly and infectious, and featuring instrumental remixes as well, Kim Esty's CD-single delivers on all fronts.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Oriana LaRusso with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Oriana’s Opiphany"

RadioIndy is pleased to present Oriana LaRusso with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Oriana's Opiphany"

"Oriana's Opiphany," the second released CD from Oriana LaRusso, is a smart and contemporary collection of dance-pop tunes by a young singer with the poise and polish of a seasoned vet. LaRusso's sometimes sultry and smoky voice plays off a synth and beat-laden soundtrack in a way that is often original and compelling. On the ballad, "More Time," she shows remarkable control at the lower register of her voice while on the R&B-drenched "Not Anymore" she commands the middle register like a love-weary chanteuse. The bulk of the CD sports a predominantly Urban / Top 40 dance feel with LaRusso not only up to the material but leading it with a heady confidence. If at times you hear echoes of Madonna ("Pass Me By") or Shakira ("Watch Me"), or even J-Lo ("Standing Still in Love"), one realizes the lofty aspirations the singer has set for herself. To its credit, "Oriana's Opiphany" is a fine showcase for a singer with not only ambition, but talent as well.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Cardona with a GrIndie Award for the CD "You’ll Like It"

RadioIndy is pleased to present Cardona with a GrIndie Award for the CD "You'll Like It"

Cardona's CD, "You'll Like It" employs synthesizer, echo, some propulsive drumming and, on the opening title track, a jazzy dollop of electric piano, to push the dance-centric and uptown-leaning musical agenda of Brooklyn performer, Joe Cardona. This three song disc verily smacks of unbuttoned satin shirts, garish medallions, and dance floors ablaze under flashing club lights as Cardona croons in an almost drone-like and atonal - but loosely melodic, voice about the everyday "give and take" that is modern urban life. Eschewing deeply meaningful or profound lyrics, "You'll Like It" boasts the kinds of street-tough brashness of a testosterone-fueled Brooklyn club-crawler. For instance, on the title track, Cardona warbles, "the more you lick, the more you'll taste…and the more you'll like it," while on the unsentimental "Shut Up Baby," he refuses to pull any punches, singing "shut up, shut up, baby." Made for the dance floor by an artist with the milieu that fires his muse, the CD "You'll Like It" is a well played, well produced, multi-sonic exploration of the urban experience that is sure to inspire more than just booty-shaking.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Alan Curtis with a GrIndie Award for the CD "More Than I Can Be"

RadioIndy is pleased to present Alan Curtis with a GrIndie Award for the CD "More Than I Can Be"

On his first solo album, "More Than I Can Be," Alan Curtis blends an array of roots rock influences with creative arrangements. The CD opens with "Ten in Heaven," a retro allusion that could lend itself to the likes of Brian Wilson or The Traveling Wilbury's while not swaying too left of contemporary. Through vocally driven songs, Curtis establishes his unique character while also keeping the layering fresh and engaging throughout. With a heartfelt piano ballad as heard on the title track "More Than I Can Be" followed by dance inducing beats, Curtis's love for rock n roll is lucid in each song. Feel the driving drum beats on "Greed (Money, Money, Money)" while vocals belt out melodic lyrics and the organ holds solid chord progressions. If your old Tom Petty records have lost their thrill, this new CD may be a solid successor.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Daniele Meo with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Pezzi Rotti"

RadioIndy is pleased to present Daniele Meo with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Pezzi Rotti"

Solo artist, Daniele Meo's debut album "Pezzi Rotti" is an impressive collection of original pop/rock songs. This young and talented artist is not only an accomplished singer, but a strong and solid writer as well. His vocals have a distinct, delicate and melodic quality that gives the lyrics an engaging feel. The production and recording quality of this CD is excellent, as the tracks are mainstream radio-ready. The guitar bends on "II Profumo Di Te" blends the pop/rock style on this energetic tune. "Le Meraviglie Del Mondo" features progressive touches of synth and percussion which really balances well with the vocals. On the titled track "Pezzi Rotti" the piano and strings driven version is expressive and shows the artistic range of this performer. Check out the enjoyable disc "Pezzi Rotti" especially if you like to hear refreshing pop/rock tunes.

"On the Other Side" by Dwayne Ford (Pop Artist from Canada)

With a relaxed yet soulful voice, perfectly suited to his original Adult Contemporary songs, Dwayne Ford's new CD, "On the Other Side," is a smooth blend of Soft Rock & pop influences delivered with fitting and understated polish. Befitting a music veteran with such an accomplished resume (he has worked with the likes of David Foster, Toto & Donovan, among others), the award-winning singer-songwriter's gift for melody and crafting meaningful lyrics is front and center on this 8-song collection. "East Side Girls," with its female chorus, has a classic jazzy sound reminiscent of Steely Dan, while title-track, "On the Other Side," shimmers with an ethereal vibe that's both grounded and other-worldly. CD-opener "Please Don't Say You Care," with caressing strings and engaging hook, plays to Ford's strengths as a singer, while the final tune, "Who Did You Do To Us," with its more insistent rhythm and gorgeous organ fills, simply leaves you wanting more. Mixed between arresting melodies from beginning to end, two instrumentals showcase a stellar studio band, as well as spotlighting Ford's arranging prowess. An album that's ultra radio-friendly – in a good way, Dwayne Ford's "On the Other Side" CD is sure to please Adult Contemporary & Easy Listening listeners.

"Charlie Comes First" by Artificial Happiness (Adult Alternative Artist from England)

Displaying a keen penchant for grand rock 'n' roll dramatics reminiscent of Jim Steinman's seminal productions (Meat Loaf, Bonnie Tyler), Artificial Happiness stakes its claims to rock glory on their 1st full-length CD, "Charlie Comes First." With a studied feel for rock's capacity as a robust storytelling vehicle, the UK band mixes guitar-laden rock with electronica flourishes & over-the-top, hook-filled choruses in a 10-song collection that's as memorable as it is immediate. "Baby to Have You I Have to Leave You" opens the CD with a Peter Gabriel-like vibe that bursts open in a chorus that's danceable & sing-along catchy; "Unknown is Her Name" is a terrific slice of classic 3-chord guitar rock that recalls Prince at his best; & "Patient Patient Love" employs Ray Davies-like theatrics to provocative & winning effect. Elsewhere, the propulsive dance track, "Pray for Me in Jesus' Name," shows the band's dance grooves are as potent as their rock thunder, & "Maria Let Me In" proves they are equally adept with a moving power ballad. With each song its own fertile & well-crafted mini-drama, Artificial Happiness' terrific CD, "Charlie Comes First," will delight on many levels, not least as a straight-up rock manifesto.

"Next Ride Out" by Katie Garibaldi (Pop Artist from San Francisco, California (CA))

Katie Garibaldi's latest CD, "Next Ride Out," is a folk-pop tour de force to rival those of similar singer-songwriters whose brands are veritable household names. Like Sheryl Crow, Jewel, Fiona Apple or Ani DiFranco, Garibaldi is a soulful singer-songwriter of real – if largely unheralded, merits. Her writing is smart & nuanced, her sense of melody is hook-laden & immediate, & her singing is as polished & effective as it is affecting. On this, her 4th album, vibrant country-ish songs like "Hey, Hey Darlin'" & "Nothing Good Lasts," complement straight-up pop-rock tunes (like CD-opener, "Say the Word," or the Billy Joel-like strains of "Went Too Far (Foot in My Mouth)") with equal skill. She displays a bit of Crow-inspired grittiness with the funky "A Love Without Chains," while the wonderful ballad, "I Owe You Nothing," masterfully pits a delicate & beautiful melody against a lyric of willful – but not shrill, defiance. With keen production & a faultless & potent band behind her, Katie Garibaldi's "Next Ride Out" CD is one to hop aboard for – no matter the destination. Indeed, Garibaldi proves the ride alone is worth the price of the fare.

"Fool and His Amazing Wasted Life" by The Secret (Pop Artist from Massachusetts(MA))

The Secret play a relaxed & tuneful style of Brit-flavored Soft Rock on their fine new release, "Fool and His Amazing Wasted Life." At times recalling '70's bands like The Bee Gees and Sutherland Brothers (or the Joey Molland-led Badfinger) – albeit, sometimes with more '80's-style production values, the 13-track collection is brimming with solid hooks engagingly delivered in singer Frank Paquette's decidedly throaty, Mark Knopfler-meets-Leonard Cohen voice. Among highlights, "What About Us" is a nice straightforward pop-rock tune; "Change of Heart" is a soulful bit of California-inspired pop with lush synth-pop backing; and "More Than Love" continues the California influence, opening with beach sounds before segueing into an Adult Contemporary ballad worthy of Air Supply. Elsewhere, The Secret takes some musical chances, dabbling in rap ("Girls In The Project") & 70's, gospel-like disco ("Somehow I Know"), illustrating the range of musicality this band of rock vets bring to the table. What ultimately makes The Secret's "Fool and His Amazing Wasted Life" release, though, are subtle & insinuating melodies that sneak up on you & linger well after a song has finished, & that's no small accomplishment.

"Naughty and Nice" by CRgruve (Rap/Pop Artist from Maine (ME))

CRgruve dishes up a collection of sharp R&B/Rap with a splash of Pop mixed in on their latest release, "Naughty and Nice." Not only are the songs smooth and silky as you will hear on "Lunar Dance" and "Water," but the vocals resonate with suave personality. CRgruve's witty character comes through with amusing lyrics on songs such as "Filfy (Father I'd Like to Freak)" and "Milf." With a driving beat and synth powered tones, "Trolling for Slop" hits the mark, but pay close attention to the lyrics as they are truly humorous and definitely one of a kind. Original and creative with dance floor abilities, these songs are groovin' to say the least. The musicality is excellent with a nice dynamic balance between vocals and instruments. Fans of R&B/Rap won't be disappointed when listening to CRgruve's entertaining album "Naughty and Nice."
